Mineral based organic cosmetics

Mineral based organic cosmetics I recently had the opportunity to test products from Hynt Beauty, a luxury mineral based makeup line that is free of the most controversial and potentially harmful ingredients. The product line was originally launched in 2007 by professional makeup artist, Christopher Drummond and rebranded this past summer as Hynt Beauty. Although the name and packaging have changed, the integrity of product formulations has remained the same. Mineral based organic cosmeticsCo-owner and President of Hynt Beauty, Meryl Marshall began to question cosmetic product ingredients after being diagnosed with breast cancer ten years ago. Meryl began to study cosmetic product labels and their ingredients so that she would be equipped to make informed cosmetic purchases that would not jeopardize her health. Before long she realized her desire for a high performance, luxurious cosmetic line free of controversial ingredients could not be met by the current market. Hynt Beauty was birthed from Meryl’s passion to create a line of luxurious natural makeup and skincare line that is free of the most controversial and potentially harmful ingredients.

The Hynt Beauty product line contains more than 45 botanicals and the entire line is vegan with the exception of their mascara. The brand is also PETA approved, Gluten-free and Non-Comedogenic. Free of Petrochemicals, Parabens, Nano-particles, Bismuth Oxychloride, Talc, Titanium Dioxide, Silicones, Mineral Oil, GMO’s, FD&C dyes, Carmine and Phthalates.

Hynt Beauty’s Duet Perfecting concealer is a full coverage concealer that creates opaque coverage with minimal product. In my opinion, the coverage is very similar to the coverage of Kevyn’s Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer Foundation.

My cross tattoo was almost completely covered with the small amount of Hynt Duet Perfecting Concealer shown in the photo above. The color is too light for me however, the image depicts the fantastic coverage provided by Duet concealer.

I received promotional samples of Hynt Beauty Perfecting Concealer in shades light and medium, both shown above. Neither shade is a match for me and the next shade in the line is tan, which is too dark. Although the coverage provided by Hynt’s concealer is stellar, the color range is definitely in need of expansion.

The Velluto Powder Foundation is a loose, triple milled mineral based foundation that feels creamy to the touch. Unfortunately, the promotional samples that I received, shades light beige and medium did not match my skin tone. It was difficult to give a true assessment of the foundation’s performance since I was not able to wear the product. In reviewing Hynt’s website, I would guess that shade 04: Bronzed Beige would be closer to my skin tone since I have yellow undertones in my skin. I am disappointed that I can’t give you a better review of this product as the formula contains marvelous ingredients and the product did not look chalky or settle into fine lines or skin imperfections. I have provided the color chart for Velluto Powder Foundation below for your review.

  • VF01 Ivory: Very fair porcelain skin with a pink undertone.
  • VF02 Light Beige: Fair to Light skin with neutral beige or yellow undertone.
  • VF03 Medium Beige: Medium skin with neutral beige or medium olive undertones.
  • VF 04 Bronzed Beige: Medium skin with yellow undertones.
  • VF05 Honey Chestnut: Medium Tan shade with yellow and red tonalities. Blended exclusively for Darker Latin, African American, Indian and South East Asian skin tones.
  • VF06 Bronzed Caramel: Rich Caramel Brown for dark skin tones. A perfect blend of red, gold and bronze shades.
  • VF07 Rich Chestnut: For very deep skin tones, blended with red and yellow undertones to leave a complexion warming, flawless finish on skin with blue undertones without the “ashy” finish. Specially formulated to enhance skin tones that are deep and difficult to match.

The three shades of Perfetto pressed eye shadow that I received were Sunlit Dune, Khaki Star and Evening Wisteria. All three of the shadows were beautiful, especially khaki star, an olive green shade with a hint of gold in the formula. The shadows felt very smooth and soft when applied to the skin and did not look chalky on my “mature” lids. I did not wear these shadows and therefore cannot report on the longevity of the formula. I have deep-set eyes and prefer to wear light eye shadow colors to prevent creating the look of additional depth to my eye socket. In reviewing the available shades of Perfetto pressed eye shadow I could see myself loving the shades: Rosy Velvet, Pink Quartz and Crystal Taupe.

I also received Stella Loose Eye Shadow in Honey Gold. This is a gorgeous metallic golden bronze shade that is very pigmented, a little goes a long way.

Nocturne mascara is described as a “multi-tasking true-black mascara that visibly lengthens, curls, volumizes, and lifts lashes…”. I would describe Nocturne as a good every day mascara. I didn’t notice the appearance of additional length, volume or “lift” to my lashes however, the formula performed well with no clumping or flaking. The mascara wand is an average sized full head with synthetic bristles. Note that the wand was not curved upon receipt. I always bend my mascara wands so that they hug the lashline and provide maximum volume.

My absolute favorite product that I received from Hynt Beauty is the Lumiere Radiance Boosting Powder. Lumiere is a multi-dimensional loose powder that is finely milled and promotes a candelight glow to the skin. It can be mixed with your foundation for a more luminous finish, used alone for a natural yet radiant look or lightly dusted as a finishing touch to create a look of lit-from-within glow. Of all the products I received from Hynt Beauty, Lumiere Radiance Boosting Powder is the one product that I could see becoming part of my regular makeup routine. I hesitate to include the swatch for this product because it does not accurately portray how beautiful Lumiere sits on the skin however…

Mineral based organic cosmetics My overall impression of the Hynt Beauty line is a favorable one. As a skin girl at heart, I prefer to use cosmetics that contain ingredients that feel nourishing on skin and are free of mineral oil and questionable ingredients. (My “go-to” cosmetic lines are Mirabella Beauty and Hourglass Cosmetics). With the right products for my skin tone, I definitely see where Hynt Beauty could quickly join my list of favorite color cosmetic products. For more information, visit Hynt Beauty’s website here.
